Businesses that work with food are legally required to ensure their food handler staff members acquire skills and knowledge of food safety and food hygiene matters.

Course Info

This unit will give you the skills and knowledge required to apply good hygiene practices within a range of service industry operations. You will have the ability to follow predetermined procedures, identify and control simple hazards and take particular hygiene measures to ensure the non contamination of food and other items that might put customers, colleagues and self at a health risk.

This unit is one of three hierarchical units describing varying levels of participation in food safety processes:

  • SITXOHS002A Follow workplace hygiene procedures
  • SITXFSA001A Implement food safety procedures
  • SITXFSA002A Develop and implement a food safety program

What will you achieve from this course?


   1. Follow hygiene procedures
   2. Report and identify any personal health issues likely to cause a hygiene risk
   3. Prevent food and other item contamination
   4. Prevent cross contamination

Upon successful completion of this course participants receive a Statement of Attainment for Follow workplace hygiene procedures (SITXOHS002A) as part of Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management (SIT60107).

Prerequisites

  • Sufficient literacy, numeracy and computer skills to complete the course
  • Access to an internet connection and computer
  • FOOD SAFETY SUPERVISOR TRAINING PRE REQUISITE - You must have completed this course before being able to be assessed as competent in SITXFSA001A Implement Food Safety Procedures.

Assessments
At various stages of your course, you will be required to complete an assessment.

You will be assessed on:


  • your understanding of the information
  • your ability to apply this knowledge to a range of circumstances that may occur in a work environment

In your final assessment you will be required to identify hygiene hazards and poor organisational practices within a fictional kitchen and disposal area. You will also be required to prepare an audio file demonstrating your verbal skills to report hygiene hazards and poor organisational practices.

This unit is part of a nationally recognised qualification.
