Course Outline
Billy Blue’s Adobe Creative Suite Intermediate is a great course to get to know the deeper tricks and tips within Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.  It's all hands-on, but there's no design brief given so more content is covered to get you using Creative Suite to its full potential.

Course Content

We’ll start with revision of the core elements and functions of Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.   Then move further into the applications to gain mastery of the advanced functions.

llustrator

•    Tools, Tools, Tools
•    Layers – professional approach
•    Live trace and Live Paint - streamlining your workflow from hand-drawn Illustration, to Finished Art
•    transforming objects - Envelope distort, warp tools, free transform and using Effects
•    raster effects - pros and cons in relation to the print process
•    Blend Tool and Gradient Mesh
•    Paintbrushes - Calligraphic, Art, Pattern brushes and effective use of the Wacom tablet
•    clipping masks, compound masks, pathfinder and the direct selection tool
•    text manipulation, stylesheets, text-flow, text-wrapping, type manipulation
•    editing document colour using Live Colour
•    working with Photoshop files

Photoshop

•    using the clone, healing brush, and blend tools for retouching photos
•    adjustment layers
•    tools – important attributes
•    true resolution – what is it?
•    selections – adding, subtracting & Magic Wand
•    deep etching methods – Pen and Mask
•    channels / masks / selections / paths
•    sharpening (unsharp mask) – dos & don’ts
•    efficient removal of dust & scratches, the professional way
•    colour correction techniques – replace colour, selective colour

NB: Course focus can change depending on the requirements of the class. Where possible, request topics will be included.

Prerequisites

This is not a course for beginners.   If you have completed the Billy Blue Adobe Creative Suite Basic course you will be fine; if not then you must have good working experience with the basic functions and tools in each of Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign (the pen tool in Illustrator for example), on either Mac or PC.

Lecturer’s Biography

As designer and teacher, Désirée DeKlerk has been working internationally as a visual communicator since 1978, creating and presenting courses that illuminate these skills in her students.  She’s been lecturing in graphic design and visual communications at Billy Blue since 2004.  Amongst others, she has designed for: The Australian Museum, The Swedish Tobacco Company, Heineken, Doubleday Book Publishers, Hanimex, and the Total Design Bureau in Amsterdam.
