Course Outline
So you know how to get around the Creative Suite, but not exactly sure how to turn out great design solutions in quick time? Billy Blue’s Design Focus is a great way to make the most of the powerful tools in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign so you can creatively produce exciting design solutions within tight time-lines.

Who should attend

•    You’re already using Creative Suite at Intermediate/Advanced level but want to become more confident in knowing which tools, sequences, combinations and techniques to use to produce fabulous effects
•    You want to become familiar with creative techniques that offer all kinds of possibilities for experimentation and that extra visual edge
•    You want to develop more creative design thinking and solutions quickly and effectively using Creative Suite

Course Content

We’ll focus on several specific creative aspects by exploring a range of techniques within CS, leading to creatively successful results. Including how to:
•    Take a portrait and replace the person’s image with text – Photoshop
•    Put artwork onto fabric, like T-Shirts, hats, bags – Photoshop
•    Remove elements from a photograph using cover-up layers and the new live brush preview for the Clone Stamp – Photoshop
•    Wrap text around an object to create a cool effect – Photoshop
•    Create Shiny Calligraphy Text Effect – Photoshop
•    Make Unrealistic Things Look Possible – Photoshop
•    Mask liquids in Photoshop
•    Create a 3D card – Photoshop
•    Protect your images without being obtrusive using subtle watermarking – Photoshop
•    Look at panorama alignment problems and explore various strategies for fixing them – Photoshop
•    Extend Depth of Field with Auto-Blend Layers – Photoshop
•    Make a realistic Coffee Stain Design – Illustrator and Photoshop
•    Create a Diamond Plating Effect – Illustrator and Photoshop
•    Design in Photoshop Using Patterns from Illustrator
•    Create cool logos – Illustrator
•    Create a Custom Realistic Art Brush – Illustrator
•    Create a 3D pie chart to represent your data – Illustrator
•    Take a photograph and create a themed bar graph – Illustrator
•    Create a Swirly Border Design – Illustrator
•    Experiment with the Gradient Mesh tool to create a bevel and emboss look – Illustrator
•    Create a 3D effect using simple 2D art – Illustrator
•    Experiment with Live Color options to add new life to complex artwork – Illustrator
•    Create a street sign using the Mesh Tool and 3D Effect – Illustrator
•    Using the Glyphs to create illustrations – Illustrator

NB: Course focus can change depending on the requirements of the class. Where possible, request topics will be included. 

Prerequisites

This course does not show you how the software tools work, it shows you how to increase your creative capacity by combining features and functions you already work with. So you should have completed the Billy Blue Adobe Creative Suite Intermediate course or be very comfortable working with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign CS4 to an intermediate level on either Mac or PC.

Lecturer’s Biography
As designer and teacher, Désirée DeKlerk has been working internationally as a visual communicator since 1978, creating and presenting courses that illuminate these skills in her students. She’s been lecturing in graphic design and visual communications at Billy Blue since 2004.
Amongst others, she has designed for: The Australian Museum, The Swedish Tobacco Company, Heineken, Doubleday Book Publishers, Hanimex, and the Total Design Bureau in Amsterdam.
Ever fascinated by colour and shape, Désirée has created beautiful fabrics and unique wearable art pieces for dancers and celebrities. She has published a book of graphic symbology, embodying profound philosophical concepts, and now creates her own design projects.
