Certificate in ElectroCardiography

Certificate in ElectroCardiography (ECG)
This certificate will enable you to prepare electrocardiography machines for use, prepare clients for ECG procedures, attach ECG electrodes, produce an ECG trace and complete the ECG process. You will also learn about physiology of the blood, heart, vasculature, lungs and airways. You will gain an insight into the vital processes that occur in the healthy cardiovascular and respiratory systems and the physiology, anatomy and biochemistry and basic physics driving these processes, alongside basic medical terminology. This course will enable you to work as an ECG technician to produce ECGs.

This Certificate covers 3 units:
•         Cardio Respiratory Performance
•         Basic Medical Terminology (Nationally Recognised)
•         Perform Electrocardiography (ECG) (Nationally Recognised)

Cardio Respiratory Performance
Cardiorespiratory Performance is an advanced biology course that requires students to have previous knowledge in basic Human biology. The course focuses on the physiology of the blood, heart, vasculature, lungs and airways. Students will gain insight into the vital processes that occur in the healthy cardiovasular and respiratory systems and the physiology, anatomy and biochemistry basic physics driving these processes. Comparison between the resting and active states, as well as the impact of medical conditions and other factors on cardiorespiratory performance is made.  Students will discover and investigate the regulation of this vital multi-organ system.
Topics include pulmonary ventilation, gas exchange, gas laws, blood physiology, haemoglobin, oxygen and carbon dioxide transport, cardiac output, electrocardiograms, oxygen utilisation and energy production, cardiac output, lung function and more.
There are 7 lessons in this course:
1.       The Science of Blood
2.       Blood Pressure
3.       Pulmonary Ventilation
4.       Gas Exchange & Transport
5.       Blood Flow & Gas Transport
6.       Cardio Respiratory Control
7.       Cardio Respiratory Disease

Perform Electrocardiography (ECG) (Nationally Recognised)

This is a nationally recognised qualification which teaches how to
•         Prepare electrocardiography machine for use
•         Prepare client for ECG procedure
•         Attach ECG electrodes
•         Produce an ECG trace
•         Complete ECG process.

Attendance of a half day workshop on the Gold Coast is essential if you do not have access to an ECG machine.

Basic Medical Terminology (Nationally Recognised)
This is a nationally recognised qualification which teaches basic medical terminology so you can work in health environments.

Successful completion will award a Statement of Attainment in: Perform Electrocardiography and Basic Medical Terminology. These can be used to RPL towards HLT32607 Certificate III in Pathology and other health related courses.
