Admission RequirementsApplication for admission are assessed initially on the basis of a relevant undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 4.0. The degree, or the major undertaken in that degree, needs to be in one of the following areas:
- Conservation Studies.
- Environmental rehabilitation studies.
- Forestry.
- Geography (human and physical).
- Marine.
- Resources and environmental management.
- Policy studies.
- Social ecology.
- Environmental Studies.
- Urban and regional planning.
- Management.
If you do not satisfy these criteria you are still encouraged to apply. Your application will be assessed on the basis of "admission points" as described in the Additional Selection Criteria. The Graduate Certificate in Environmental and Business Management requires 60 admission points.
Selection CriteriaAdditional Selection Criteria:
- Alternative entry will be assessed on the basis of the admission points scheme as described below.
- An incomplete undergraduate degree or equivalent from an approved institution (with a Grade Point Average of 4.0 or greater): Up to 50 points depending on number of units successfully completed.
- An AQF approved diploma or Associate Diploma or equivalent from an approved institution: Up to 50 points (50 points for a relevant area; 30 points for a non-relevant area).
- Approved professional qualifications: Up to 50 points.
- Relevant work experience: 20 points per year (maximum 60 points).
- Related area of research or management project completed with appropriate documentation: Up to 50 points.
- Statement of professional aims and achievements and/or interview: Up to 20 points.
- An overseas qualification from an approved institution equivalent to an undergraduate degree, Diploma, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma will be allocated the appropriate admission points as specified above.
Credit TransferCredit may be granted for coursework courses if they can be demonstrated to be directly equivalent in terms of content and depth of study to the corresponding courses in the Environmental & Business Management program, and they were completed within the previous 5 years. Credit will be granted by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Science and IT in accordance with the Rules Governing Postgraduate Coursework Awards.
Students who have satisfactorily completed the specified units of the Graduate Certificate in Environmental & Business Management program may apply for admission to the Master of Environmental & Business Management program.
International StudentsInternational students can only complete this program online and must comply with the University's English Language proficiency requirements before an application is accepted.
Special NeedsThe support structures of the Student Support Unit will be available to assist any students with a disability or chronic illness. The Faculty and School accepts responsibility, in liaison with the Student Support Unit, for providing reasonable accommodations to allow students with disabilities to complete the program.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Student Support and Development service through the Wollotuka Institute.
Requirements and StructureThe program can be completed over two trimesters of full-time study or longer if preferred. Courses are offered on a trimester basis, ie. three terms per year. Please note that the core course in the program is only available in trimester 1 of any year.
Students may commence studies in January, May or September.
The Graduate Certificate program comprises four courses with a total value of 40 units. The coursework consists of one prescribed course (10 units) and three specialisation courses (30 units). Students select one specialisation course from Group A (10 units) and two specialisation courses from Group B (20 units).
Students who have satisfactorily completed the Graduate Certificate in Environmental and Business Management, may proceed to the Master of Environmental and Business Management with full credit for studies completed.
