Course Outline

Nominal Hours: This qualification is estimated to take about 520 hours to complete, including the Vocational Placement. This equals approximately 10 hours of study per week over 12 months. Since the course is self paced, you are able to work at your own pace and complete the qualification in less than the maximum 12 months.

Assessment Methods: Assessment is conducted using a combination of written questions, case studies, observation and a skills journal to give you maximum opportunity to develop your knowledge in aged care.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites required to enter the Certificate III in Aged Care. However, it is preferred that you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills

You will also need to undergo a police check for a criminal background in order to work in this field, and may have to undertake additional manual handling training before commencing your Vocational Placement (mandatory for completion of the course). This can be done after you have commenced your training.

* NOTE: The HLTFA311A Apply First Aid unit is NOT delivered by Inspire Education, students must organise the completion of this unit via an external provider.

  • A Registered Aged Care Facility to complete vocational placement

Vocational Placement

To successfully complete this qualification you will need to initiate contact with a registered Aged Care facility to complete workplace-based experience (minimum 80 hours and maximum 240 hours). This is to give you  practical experience in working with elderly persons and has been specifically designed to assist you develop the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively with elderly individuals.
