Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is an introductory course into the childcare industry. It is a compulsory qualification set out by the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care in relation to the Early Years Learning Framework. Students who complete this course of study are awarded with a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Students who partially complete this course receive a Statement of Attainment. Certificate III is also a component of the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

This course involves Competency Based Training and Assessment. Competency based training reflects the Australian Qualification Framework principles of validity, reliability, flexibility and fairness. Assessment tasks include written work as well as practical workplace based tasks, there are no final exams.

Assessment is ongoing and includes; - Written Assessment - Scenarios, case studies and group discussions - Workplace tasks, observations and investigation.

Course Duration: Equivalent to 6 - 12 months full-time study (Approx.12 - 24 months of part-time study). Course may be completed sooner. Students must complete 120 hours of work experience – this can be completed in your place of employment if currently working in a children’s service, or through volunteer work undertaken at a service. This practical experience is of benefit to students as it introduces them to the workplace, gives students the confidence to be proactive in the workplace and often leads to employment.

Entry Requirements: Although there are no specific entry-level requirements in order to successfully complete the training, students need to have reading, writing and comprehension skills equivalent to HSC General Studies level. If you are a mature age person and do not have a formal leaving certificate you are still eligible to undertake the training program. The course is delivered via Distance Education or in a classroom setting through our partner organisations.

This course targets; - Students looking to begin a career in Child Care Services - Unqualified staff currently employed in a casual or volunteer role in a children’s service - Unqualified staff currently employed in a children's services who are eligible for Existing Worker Traineeships - Students who have begun a Traineeship ICCC has a reputation for providing all students with a high level of support during training. Each student has a College tutor who maintains regular contact and is able to offer encouragement, assistance and feedback related to progress with studies.
