The Diploma is designed to provide skills for a person typically employed as an office manager, senior clerical officer or assistant accountant. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES This course is designed to provide the educational requirements for a clerical officer, assistant accountant or office manager working in tax, financial management, management accounting and financial reporting roles.

Hobart City Campus Full-time 6 months (part-time equiv.) (where FNS40604 Certificate IV Financial Services (Accounting) has been completed)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Students require the following underpinning skills and knowledge: an understanding of commercial law compliance requirements; accrual accounting; depreciation and reporting; principles of cash flow and budgetary control; interpersonal, communication and report writing skills; estimation, forecasting and analysis skills; information technology and spreadsheeting skills.
Students who have completed the Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting) will have the underpinning skills and knowledge entry requirements for this course.
COMPETENCIES 17 units must be achieved, 5 core units, 4 (i) industry core units, 5 (p) pre-requisite core units and 3 elective units (suggested choice of units listed). The units to complete this course consist of the underpinning skills and knowledge acquired from the Certificate III and Certificate IV in Financial Services plus the following competencies:
Core Manage Budgets and Forecasts Prepare Financial Reports for a Reporting Entity Provide Management Accounting Information Implement and Maintain Internal Control Procedures Prepare Income Tax Returns

- Apply Health and Safety Practices in the Workplace
- Communicate in the Workplace
- Apply Principle of Professional Practice to Work in the Financial Services Industry
- Set-up and Operate a Computerised Accounting System
- Maintain Financial Records
- Prepare and Bank Receipts
- Prepare Financial Reports Elective Undertake Business Planning Analyse Market Data Establish and Maintain Accounting Information Systems Evaluate Business Performance ASSESSMENT Industry requirements for the taxation competencies are for a written examination as assessment.
RECOGNITION OF EXISTING SKILLS When you apply to train at TAFE Tasmania you can ask for recognition of previous VET in schools, work or study experience. This is called Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
