Aged Care Work
This course gives you the skills to provide care needs and support to the older person within residential homes and the community.
This encompass' all aspects of needs, not just the physical.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Certificate III in Aged Care Work is a nationally recognised course that allows you to be a care provider within a residential setting and within the community. A number of career pathways are available to you with further study, such as Enrolled Nursing, Leisure and Living, Health and Community Care etc
LOCATION DURATION
Hobart - Clarence Campus Full-time (4 months), Part-time (10 months)
Alanvale Campus Full-time (8 months),
Part-time equivalent Devonport Campus Part-time (9 months approx.)
Burnie Campus Full-time (7 months approx.) or Flexible Options Smithton Campus On demand
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Basic literacy and numeracy skills and a genuine interest in caring for an older person.
COMPETENCIES
Course consists of 13 competencies. Units cover a range of topics, including Occupational Health & Safety, Communication, Provide Personal Care and Support to an Older Person and Dementia Care Support.
This course includes a period of placement in industry for experience. Core Provide Support to an Older Person Communicate Appropriately With Clients and Colleagues Orientation to Aged Care Work Participate in the Work Environment Support the Older Person to Meet Their Emotional and Psychosocial Needs Participate in Safety Procedures for Direct Care Work Comply with Information Requirements of the Aged Care and Community Care Sectors Provide Care Support Which is Responsive to the Specific Nature of Dementia Provide Personal Care Elective Assist in the Provision of an Appropriate Environment Support the Older Person to Maintain Their Independence Work Effectively With Culturally Diverse Clients and Co-Workers Apply Basic First Aid
RECOGNITION OF EXISTING SKILLS
When you apply to train at TAFE Tasmania you can ask for recognition of previous VET in schools, work or study experience. This is called Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
FEES - INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE
Fees effective from 1/1/2008 You'll be surprised at how affordable TAFE Tasmania is - most courses have a cap of $990 for one calendar year of training ($275 with concession).
You do not pay HECS. Additional costs may apply to some courses for uniforms, licenses or text books. Concessions apply to students in receipt of, or dependant of a person in receipt of Centrelink benefits (e.g. Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, New Start, Pension, Parenting Payment etc.).
