Aged Care Work

This course provides the skills to carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual's wellbeing through personal care and/or other activities of living. Successful participants can provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Work may include training and support to promote independence and community participation. This may be provided as part of activities and programs in a variety of settings including residential and centre-based programs. This course is available as a traineeship. LOCATION DURATION Clarence Campus Flexible Delivery Alanvale Campus Part-time Burnie Campus Flexible Delivery Options Statewide Australian Apprenticeship Flexibly delivery (maximum 2 years) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Essential: Must be employed in the Aged Care industry, for a minimum of 20 hours per week, and have some experience. Desirable: Certificate III in Aged Care For Traineeships: You will need to discuss this with your employer and register with a New Apprenticeship Centre before contacting TAFE. COMPETENCIES Course consists of 14 competencies. 11 compulsory units and 3 units selected from a wide range of electives. Core Maintain an Effective Work Environment Maintain Organisation's Information Systems Plan and Conduct Group Activities Work Within a Legal and Ethical Framework Deliver and Develop Client Services Plan and Monitor Service Delivery Plans Undertake Administrative Work Provide Services to an Older Person with Complex Needs Support the Older Person to Meet Their Emotional and Psychosocial Needs Implement and Monitor OHS Policies and Procedures for a Workplace Utilise Specialist Communication Skills to Build Strong Relationships RECOGNITION OF EXISTING SKILLS When you apply to train at TAFE Tasmania you can ask for recognition of previous VET in schools, work or study experience. This is called Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). FEES - INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE Fees effective from 1/1/2008 You'll be surprised at how affordable TAFE Tasmania is - most courses have a cap of $990 for one calendar year of training ($275 with concession). You do not pay HECS. Additional costs may apply to some courses for uniforms, licenses or text books.
